Gallente:
Catalyst - This is well known for suicide ganking, but it can also be used in pvp. Because of its lack of mids, it has terrible range control for brawling. However, the catalyst can put out enough dps to deal with that handicap. If you get to close range in a blaster catalyst for even a few seconds, you can blast an enemy to pieces, even if they have superior range control . You can even fight in a catalyst with no point on it, and just depend on overwhelming dps to kill people before they realize they can warp out. One fun thing to do with blaster catalysts is to get 2-3 other people, and find an isolated ship with a mediocre tank off a gatecamp, like a rapier sitting outside some bubbles. If you land on it at 0, the 3 of you can put 1800 dps into the target and kill it before the enemy fleet can react.. Its basically suicide ganking in low/null. A rail fit catalyst is a more balanced pvp ship (in the sense of a balanced engagement profile, not game balance), and flies very similarly to an artywolf. I have linked a rail cata below. No, it is not a tanky ship. The fit requires a 1% cpu implant. If you dont have one, you can use a meta warp disruptor. Uranium or plutonium ammo is what you will normally use.

Algos - The algos is one of those ships where you cant be sure of the fit before you engage. The highs can be guns or neuts. It can be shield fit, armor fit, brawling fit, kiting fit. You can even do a oversized afterburner fit. The fit below is a PODLA algos, designed for use in RR gangs with 2-3 algoses and a navitas. It requires a 3% pg implant.

Caldari:
Corax - I'll be honest; I hate this ship. Its as slow as a battlecruiser, and can be outrun by frigates with afterburners, even if you fit a mwd to it. Its limited to a single damage type. It does do a lot of missile damage, with a native application bonus, but it is immobile, not super tanky, and is in general, not a great ship. Ive linked a fleet tender fit below - the goal of this fit is to just sit with your fleet and kill tackle. With the native application bonus and the dual target painters, you do decent dps even to linked interceptors, and can put dps on the primary when no enemy tackle is in range. Against larger ships, use fury missiles.[Corax, Anti tackle]

Cormorant - The cormorant used to have 4 mid slots, which was the most any destroyer got. Now it has 3 mids, and went from a single low slot to 2. Fit for close range, it is basically just a blaster thrasher. It is a lot slower and doesn't have damage type selection, but has better tracking and dps. With the optimal bonus it has the ability to hit out to scram range with null. In a rail fit, the cormorant can hit to almost 100km, and is often used to kill frigates without having to expose yourself to the risk of losing a 10 mil ship. Sniper cormorants are pretty common in faction warfare, either trying to pick off people who are not prepared to warp, or as long range dps in a fleet. The following fit does 150 dps out to 95km.

Coercer - The coercer is a very strong medium range destroyer. The long range of scorch combined with the destroyer tracking bonuses is extremely powerful. Because of the tracking bonus, the coercer has good dps application even at close range, although again, like all 2 mid slot ships, the lack of a web is painful. Fitting an oversized afterburner helps you create distance and boost your tracking even when scrammed and webbed.[Coercer, 10mn]

Dragoon - The dragoon is very similar to the algos. Unlike most ships with 2 mid slots, it is able to control range by leveraging its highslots as pseudo-tackle. With several neuts, and 12.6km neut range, you can turn off a target's propulsion module, and gain range control against it. Neuts will also make it more difficult for the target to kill your drones - webs take capacitor, as well as most guns. The dragoon, like all neut ships, is incredibly hard to fight 1v1. CCP Rise even said that the dragoon is so overpowered that nobody will fight it. Between the neuts and the 3 full flights of light drones, the dragoon can be very frustrating to fight solo, although it can be done. Take care not to cap yourself out running your neuts. After a initial cycle or two, you can usually step down only running a single neut.

Nooooo, don't tell people about the 10mn Coercer! Imagining the looks on peoples faces when they scram me and I don't slow down is one of my favorite parts of flying that ship. Things that want to slow you down so they can get in your face die very quickly when they try to chase you.
ReplyDeleteyou forgot about the beam coercer , pretty versatile with the insta ammo swap and hits out to 45-50k with aurora, along with about 180 dps OHd. Had lots of fun with it in fw
ReplyDeleteYeah, beam coercer, and also things like beam slicer have extremely flexible range.
